How To Clean Grease Off Kitchen Cabinets

Sometimes the buildup of grease on our kitchen cabinets is so thick that it can be seen but not easily removed. If a thick orange or yellowish sticky substance seems to be attached to your cabinet, you know what I am talking about. An orange oil cleaner can help, especially if it is allowed to sit and penetrate the grease for 2-4 minutes. This may need to be repeated a few times. You can also try a soft bristled brush and a baking soda and water paste to gently scrub the area. Depending on the finish of your cabinets, a magic eraser might be a good option. But because magic erasers can actually scrub away the finish of surfaces, you'll need to test it in a hidden spot on your cabinets first. Avoid trying to scrape away the grease since this increases the chance that you will damage the cabinets finish permanently.

Grease Melting Suds Dish soap, an alkaline-based product, cuts through grease, but so does heat. Fill your sink half full with tap water as hot as you can handle while wearing rubber gloves — hot water helps to break down or melt through built-up grease. Squirt a tablespoon or two of dish soap into the water, and use a sponge with an attached nylon-scouring pad as your grease-killing weapon. Attack the grime in a circular motion, but only for as long as it takes and with enough pressure to remove the stains — and not your cupboards’ finish. Change the water as it cools. Rinse and dry your cabinetry to a shine.

How To Clean Grease Off Kitchen Cabinets

We’re running out of storage space and I recently purchased beautiful baskets to set atop the deeper cabinets in my kitchen. After spending so much on these natural baskets, I couldn’t stomach setting them on at least a decade of grease. This is by far the grossest thing I’ve ever done… and Pinterventures’s advice made it so EASY. I opted for Scrubbing Bubbles/chemicals because I have extra laying around the apartment. The pictures of this method are VERY accurate. I used an old debit card, but later wished I had one of those wide scraping tools that painters and masons use; it would have sped things up. Per the advice, LET THE SOLUTION soak on the grease for some time. I opted for 10 minutes. My cabinet tops are so clean that I’m now storing my larger crockpot and kitchenaid mixer there, knowing that pulling these down 2-3x/month will eliminate grease accumulation on my beloved appliances. I plan to take a sponge and solution to the tops semi-annually to maintain the hard work I put in. THANK YOU for sharing this gross yet brilliant option for cleaning cabinet tops.

Kitchen cabinets get dirty, fast. You spatter grease on them when you cook. You spill everything from cake batter to olive oil on them. Your seven-year-old helps you make fruit smoothies and turns on the blender before you can put the top on it, slinging orange juice and smashed banana across the room. You can fight the grime, grease and grunge and make your cabinets look their best with this simple guide on how to clean wood cabinets.

Most cabinet types, including metal, plastic laminate, painted wood, and vinyl cabinets, can be cleaned with a solution of liquid dish soap and warm water. This simple and mild solution is enough to get food smudges, dust, and mild grease build-up off of your cabinets. Dish soap works as a degreaser and can even remove some tough buildup on the exterior. Don't forget the edges and sides of your cabinets. Rinse thoroughly with another clean cloth, before drying with a final cloth. You don't want to leave a lot of water on your cabinets which can discolor and damage them. An all-purpose cleaner can be used to clean cabinets too, but it's important to test cleaners in a hidden spot to make sure that they won't damage your cabinet's finish.

Low quality, melamine cabinetry can swell if water gets in at the seams or edges, so the drying process of this cabinetry is as important as the washing. After a rigorous cleaning, wood cabinets are thirsty for a coat of protective oil — relax, it’s not the sticky, staining type that you just fought to remove. A bimonthly coat of drying oil, such as lemon, tung or wood oils perks up and helps preserve oak, pine, maple or other natural cabinets. It also readies them for regular cleaning to dissuade future grease buildup. Use your range-hood’s fan to carry away steam and microscopic cabinet-grabbing grease particles whenever you turn on the stove.

Instead of “How to Clean the Tops of Greasy Kitchen Cabinets”, this post really should be called “The Horror That Lies Above” because that’s exactly what was I found. You see, this is an area that I don’t clean on a regular schedule. I think I mentally put it off because I know how icky it gets. All that dust that’s mixed in with cooking grease =  sticky gross gunk. The only reason I even made it up there was because of another project that I’ve been working on that I hope to be sharing this weekend.

That yellowing or darkening grime that plagues many a kitchen cabinet does not happen overnight — and the older the grease stains are, the stickier and more stubborn they become to remove. The glint of sparkling-clean cabinetry provides airiness in the workhorse space, and surfaces free of grime do not give off an unpleasant, rancid odor. Get and keep them as clean as possible for a space in which you are proud to mix, stir, knead — or fry.
